Full description
Join an Egyptologist guide on this Cairo day trip and explore the ancient wonders of Egypt. You can opt for a private or a group tour, depending on your preference.
Your tour starts at the Giza Plateau, where you can marvel at the three majestic pyramids of Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure. These are the oldest and largest pyramids in Egypt, and the only surviving ones of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Learn how these impressive monuments were built by the ancient Egyptians over 4,000 years ago.
You can also admire the Great Sphinx, a colossal statue with a human head and a lion’s body. The Sphinx is believed to represent Pharaoh Khafre, whose pyramid is nearby. Some scholars suggest that the Sphinx may be older than the pyramids, and that its face may have been altered over time. Who do you think the Sphinx looks like?
Next, you can visit the Valley Temple, which was part of Khafre’s funerary complex. This temple was used for the purification and embalming of the king’s body before burial. Your guide will explain the rituals and beliefs of the ancient Egyptians regarding death and the afterlife.
On your way to the next destination, you will stop at the Papyrus Institute, where you can see how the ancient Egyptians made paper from the papyrus plant. You can also browse through a variety of papyrus artworks and souvenirs, and try to haggle for a good deal.
After lunch at a local restaurant, you will head to the Egyptian Museum, which houses the world’s largest collection of Egyptian antiquities. Here you can see thousands of artifacts from different periods of Egyptian history, such as mummies, coffins, statues, jewelry, and pottery.
The highlight of the museum is the dazzling display of Tutankhamen’s treasure, which was found intact in his tomb by Howard Carter in 1922. You can admire the famous gold mask of Tutankhamen, as well as his throne, chariot, weapons, and other objects.
With so much to see and learn at the museum, your guide will help you navigate through the most important and interesting exhibits. You will also have some free time to explore on your own.
Your Cairo day trip ends with a transfer back to your hotel. You will have unforgettable memories of your visit to the ancient wonders of Egypt..
